Meaning:- Hieracium (L) Hawkweed-like
                  Heldreichii (L) After Theodor Heinrich Hermann von Heldreich (1822-
1902). Director of the Athens Botanical Garden.
                                       
General description:- Perennial with a short rhizome.

Stem:-
1) 5-20 cm, simple or sparingly branched. with short, stellate and long, simple
    hairs.

Leaves:-
1) Almost all basal, broadly oblanceolate, rather sparsely pilose with long, simple 
    hairs on both sides. 
2) Cauline, few, bract-like.

Flowers:-
1) Ligules bright lemon yellow, glabrous.
2) Phyllaries, c. l2 mm, narrowly lanceolate, pilose with long, white or pale
    brownish hairs.

Fruit:-
1) Achenes straw-coloured to pale brown.

Habitat:- Rocky slopes, karstic hollows, open woodland, 500-I900 m, on various
substrates.

Distribution:- Scaltered on Pelopolmisos and mainland Greece, probably more
widespread than indicated by lhe records. - Balkan Peninsula. On Crete recorded 
only from the Lefka Ori

Flowering time:- Mid-June to August, occasionally later.
